PCB testing

PCB testing of joint sealants and seals

Elastic joints on façades or windows of older buildings may contain polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB). We clarify the suspicion with a material sample and laboratory analysis – PCB analyses are available on request.

PCB in buildings – what it is about

PCB in brief

Polychlorinated biphenyls are harmful organochlorine compounds. Their use has been banned in Germany since 1989.

Typical locations

Permanently elastic joint sealants (e.g. expansion and connection joints on façades and windows), seals and certain coatings in buildings from the post-war decades.

Appearance proves nothing

The colour, hardness or age of a joint does not reliably tell you whether it contains PCB. Only a laboratory analysis of a professionally taken sample provides clarity.

How PCB testing works

Process

Request by form, phone or email (we usually reply within 24 hours), on-site appointment, professional sampling, analysis in the accredited partner laboratory, test report usually after 3–5 working days.

Number of samples

We agree with you in advance which joints and how many samples make sense, depending on the building and the planned work.

Independent

AsbestCheck does not carry out remediation, demolition or disposal. You receive a neutral assessment of the results with no interest in follow-up orders.

Price

PCB analyses (joints/seals) are available on request. Describe your property to us – you will receive an individual offer.

Frequently asked questions

What does a PCB analysis cost?

PCB analyses are offered on request. After you describe the property, you will receive an individual offer.

Can I cut off the joint sealant myself and send it in?

We advise against it: for a meaningful result, the right sampling point and clean documentation are essential.

Do you also test for asbestos in the same appointment?

Yes, asbestos samples from other components can be taken in the same appointment.
