KMF testing (mineral wool)

KMF testing of old mineral wool

Man-made mineral fibres (KMF) are found in glass wool and rock wool insulation. For older products, we clarify whether they should be classified as suspected carcinogens – with expertise under TRGS 521 (German technical rule for mineral wool).

What KMF is about

KMF in brief

Man-made mineral fibres include glass wool and rock wool, as used in roof, wall and pipe insulation.

Old mineral wool

According to TRGS 521, mineral wool manufactured before 1996 is generally regarded as "old mineral wool" suspected of having carcinogenic effects. Protective measures are required when removing it.

How KMF testing works

Process

Request by form, phone or email (we usually reply within 24 hours), on-site appointment, professional sampling, analysis in the accredited partner laboratory, test report usually after 3–5 working days.

Same price as asbestos

The KMF analysis is charged like an asbestos material sample and can be combined with asbestos samples in one appointment; the report lists them separately.

Independent

AsbestCheck does not carry out remediation, demolition or disposal. You receive a neutral assessment of the results with no interest in follow-up orders.

Price

The KMF analysis costs exactly the same as an asbestos sample: 286 € per sample incl. sampling, laboratory and report; further samples 162 €, from the 10th sample 149 €. Travel costs are calculated based on the property's postcode.
