Black adhesive under old parquet or tar-containing roofing felt? We take the sample on site and have it analysed for polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH, German: PAK) in our accredited partner laboratory.
What are PAH – and where are they found?
PAH in brief
Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons are a group of substances found mainly in tar and tar products. The lead substance is benzo[a]pyrene, which is classified as carcinogenic.
Typical locations
Black tar adhesives under parquet, mastic asphalt screeds and older roofing felt. Whether a black adhesive contains tar or is bitumen-based cannot be reliably determined with the naked eye.
Combination with asbestos
Under old floor coverings, asbestos may play a role as well as PAH. Asbestos and PAH analyses can be combined in the online calculator.
How PAH testing works
Process
Request by form, phone or email (we usually reply within 24 hours), on-site appointment, professional sampling, analysis in the accredited partner laboratory, test report usually after 3–5 working days.
Analysis
The PAH analysis of black adhesives is carried out in the partner laboratory by GC-MS. The result is clearly assigned to the sampling point.
Independent
AsbestCheck does not carry out remediation, demolition or disposal. You receive a neutral assessment of the results with no interest in follow-up orders.
Price
A separate PAH analysis costs 223 € per sample (final price under § 19 UStG, German small-business rule). Travel costs are calculated based on the property's postcode; within 20 km driving distance of our base in Mössingen-Öschingen they are included.
